2022 is going to be a monumental year in the history of Twitter. Of course, it will be remembered for Elon Musk’s multi-billion-dollar attempt to buy the company. However, this year has also seen interesting features arrive that greatly enhance the microblogging site. One such new tool is the ability to edit tweets once they are posted, a feature that seems closer than ever.

There have long been rumors that Twitter would include an Edit button. It now seems likely to happen soon as the company posted the first ever edited tweet on the TwitterBlue official channel. There is a timestamp on the tweet that shows when it was last edited.

In terms of content, the tweet simply says it is for testing purposes. The tool will allow users to edit typos, errors, or any other parts of their tweets. However, it is believed there will be a time limit of 30 minutes to make those edits.

Such a feature could be a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it is amazing that a platform known for misinformation and fake news does not have an edit feature. On the other hand, users may abuse editing to send that misinformation and then change the offensive tweet.

Either way, it seems the feature is finally inbound. It will launch on the Twitter Blue subscription tier first for paying users. Whether it will eventually come to all Twitter users remains to be seen.

Major Features

Speaking of editing, back in June the company started testing the ability for users to review offensive tweets. Users will become moderators of the reply chains that follow their tweets. This feature is not available yet, but it is currently being tested.

Elsewhere, Twitter is working on introducing long-form content for the first time. Twitter Notes will allow users to write long-form content such as articles, essays, reviews, or just nonsense (most likely this).
