Doogee S61 Pro review: basic smartphone with good protection

Secure smartphones are a kinship. In ordinary life, it’s easy to carry a phone with a battery of more than 2,000 mAh batteries around the phone: it is very heavy and very easily put it in the shirt pocket. But for those who are often absent from civilization, durable cases and an expensive battery are a real salvation.

Recently, Doogee, the leading manufacturer of rugged devices, released the S61 Pro model, which is not afraid of anything, but given the usual 5000mAh battery, it’s perfect for everyday use. Lastly, it looks attractive, but also has good visuals. We thought this option was interesting, and we tested our smartphone.

Appearance

Doogee S61 Pro is not the most elegant smartphone. It is quite common for device-friendly devices. Though the screen is 6 inches tall, the device doesn’t look compact, there’s a large amount of bezels on the screen. The kit includes a protective film, and a spare glass.

The rope has an insert in the case and in the middle a bent ear. It’s designed to dampen the blow when it falls. The connectors are covered with plugs that is a mandatory requirement for safety against the air and dust vs. IP68/IP69K/MIL-STD-810H. USB-C is hidden under the plug for recharging and communication with a computer, a 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones and a card slot.

The card is triple, this way it can be used simultaneously in both one or two SIM cards. You don’t need any special tools like throwing it onto the ledge. A good choice for the field.

There are a few holes in the right corner of the case. They’re needed to put a loop on the wrist to carry a smartphone. This loop is of course included.

The left side of the post is an additional button. It can be programmed for certain tasks through Settings.

The back panel looks very interesting. Moreover, it is available in two varieties: imitation wood and translucent as opposed to our specimen. The latest version is somewhat similar to Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, but as far as I’ve seen it, it did have a board with microcircuits visible through the cover, but not real ones.

The cameras are in the centre of the back cover with two big eyes in the form of two large eyes. We will talk about them some more later.

Screen

6 cm, 18:9 Response: 1440720.

The screen here is normal on IPS with HD and high resolution. Since the gadget isn’t a gaming device, they didn’t bother with a yearly rise in refresh. Generally speaking, the brightness sounded 470 nits, but the peak value is probably very high on certain areas of the screen. In any case, the brightness will suffice to work with a smartphone in a open area with sunny weather.

In the smartphone settings, you can find and control the night light: make sure you put the light on the schedule, temperature, and temperature.

And there are three prefixes: Standard, Bright and Cold. You don’t change radically, but just slightly adjust the color scheme.

cameras

Stepped: 48 MP Night Vision: 20MP Front: 16MP

Protected instruments are often indifferent to conventional devices in terms of mobile shooting capabilities. Doogee S61 Pro, despite being relatively cheap, has 48 megapixels resolution. There aren’t many modes of photography: traditional photo / video, portrait, manual and maximum resolution. HDR, scene recognition using AI, etc. The quality of the photo for a cheap smartphone is very good.

Another camera on the back is infrared. Or, tell the model, night vision. She installs 4 LEDs that illuminate the IR. Nevertheless, in the darkness can be totally broken. Even when it comes to photography, it’s unlikely to be a good idea to use that, but in the wild it is possible to take cool shots at night.

The equipment and the performance are fine.

Processor: MediaTek Helio G35, 8 cores, up to 2,3 GHz memory: 6/128 GB, 8 kilobytes, 16th x 19th h.

Since the smartphone is positioned as a base smartphone, a processor of the class was also used for it MediaTek Helio G35. Exactly the same is in realme C11 or Redmi 9C. In principle, it’s enough to surf the Internet and operate the interface. There are also 6 GB of RAM, so it is not easy to use the system to keep out unused applications. You can run a game that’s not particularly demanding on graphics: pixel walkers, match-3 options.

The global version interface supports 48 languages including Russian. Russification is very good quality, only occasionally come across quite poorly-formulated menu items, but you can guess how it was about the significance.

Custom buttons are among the features of the Doogee S61 Pro. The one on the left. It can be programmed to run a function, or a test application, if you turn on a flashlight or take an action screen. It is really convenient if your hands are dry or dirty and you don’t want to touch the screen with them.

You can display one more button on the screen for convenience. Moreover, assign to a specific action, and also to the output of a quick menu. There is a slight advantage. However, the expense can only be seen when purchasing a budget system.

autonomy

Battery charge: five 180 mAh.

As far as we mentioned before, the Doogee S61 Pro has a very large battery battery: 5180 mAh. In the city, it is, with a guarantee, only 1.5 days to stay. Because the load is low, there is no screen with high resolution and it isn’t. In nature, autonomy can be reduced to a day if you are in an area of u200bu200buncertain signal reception from cellular networks or even outside the covered area. In such cases, it’s worth switching to airplane mode so that you don’t waste the battery on the other hand.

Unfortunately, fast charging is not provided. The kit is equipped with a 10W adapter, so you should be prepared to leave your smartphone at the outlet for over two hours.

Total: our opinion of Doogee S61 Pro, our opinion.

This new model might be interesting for those who will most likely ride a TV in the forest than sit in a chair to play Cyberpank 2077. It’s also extremely useful for construction professionals who are forced to work under very comfortable conditions without the ability to connect to the charging.

The S61 Pro is a little smaller and lighter compared to the more brutally old Doogee models. It has a double card slot, a programmable button on the body and a quick menu is possible. This is rare in the budget market of the regular smartphones. At the time of publication, the smartphone is available for $229.99.
